What is the global economy?
The evolving economic system that increasingly links the countries of the world
Give 2 examples of jobs for each employment sector.
Primary - fishing, forestry, mining
Secondary - construction, manufacturing
Tertiary - teaching, dentists, restaurants
Quaternary/High tech - computer hardware design, research
Define the four employment sectors.
Primary - extract natural resources
Secondary - make/build/construct

Outline what is means by the employment structure of a country.
How the work force is divided up between the main employment sectors.
What kind of employment sectors do MEDC’s tend to have more of?
Tertiary - providing services
Secondary - making/building things using resources
What is globalisation?
The process of gradually drawing the countries of the world together into a single economic system due to policies enhanced by developing technology.
Why can’t the Clarke Fisher model apply to all countries?
Model based on developed country
Doesn’t apply to LEDCs
Developing countries are in post-industrial stage (primary sector dominates)
Developing countries can skip sectors - go to tourism and leisure (tertiary) from farming (primary)
Where are most low income countries distributed in the world?
Near the equator and mainly in continent of Africa (e.g. Kenya)
Where are most middle income countries distributed in the world?
In continents of South America (e.g. Brazil) and Asia (e.g. Russia)
Where are high income countries distributed in the world?
In northern hemisphere, mainly in North America (e.g. Canada)
Outline how working conditions change with development?
Working conditions good in MEDC’s (e.g. UK)
- Strict health and safety regulations
- Workers are protected by trade unions
Poor working condition in LEDC’s (e.g. Ethiopia)

Explain what is meant by flows.
Things that move through networks (e.g. manufactured goods, money, migrant workers)
