Globalisation: 1.1 - Piccadilly Village Flashcards
Globalisation
Flow of goods, capital, information, and people
People: migrants, tourists
Flows that make the world feel like it is shrinking
Flow of: People
Thousands of miles can now be travelled in just hours
Places that used to be considered as far away now feel very close due to transport supporting and enhancing the flow of people
Flows that make the world feel like it is more interconnected
Flow of: Goods
Goods from secluded areas, or landlocked countries, or small local companies, can now reach the entire globe
This greatly boosts the interconnectedness of suppliers and consumer globally, widening connections
Flow of: Information
Information can be shared in so many different formats (ideas, social media posts, music) in so many different ways (phones, letters, computers)
It’s now possible to connect with almost anybody anywhere, faster and in more detail than before - deepening connections
Flows that make the world feel like it’s shrinking and is more interconnected (mid ground)
Flow of: Capital
The flow of goods and people (e.g migrants) strongly link to the flow of capital
Because one causes the world to shrink and the other increases interconnectedness, the flow of capital can do both
