Global Warming Flashcards
1
Q
Global warming vs climate change
A
- Climate change is a long-term change in the average weather patterns that have come to define Earth’s local, regional and global climates
- Global warming is the long-term heating of Earth’s surface observed since the pre-industrial period (between 1850 and 1900) due to human activities, primarily fossil fuel burning, which increases heat-trapping greenhouse gas levels in Earth’s atmosphere

Q
what are the effects of global warming?
A
- Hotter temperatures: As greenhouse gas concentrations rise, so does the global surface temperature. This means everything is out of balance leading to:
- More rainfall and storms: As temperatures rise, more moisture evaporates, which exacerbates extreme rainfall and flooding, causing more destructive storms.
- Increased drought: When there is no rain, higher temperatures means more intense droughts. This will making it scarcer in more regions and wildfires more intense in others
- More extreme weather conditions.

Q
Global Warming & Natural Productivity
A
Climate change will increase pressure on land and water while reducing yield growth
