Baron Pierre De Coubertin visited Welnock and saw an amateur sporting festival that was there to make moral and physical improvements. He saw the ‘cult of athleticism’ that came from public schools and decided to make the modern Olympic Games

Created by the Paris congress
They decided Russia couldn’t compete due to drugs
They want to build a better world using sport

A terrorist attack leaves government response under the microscope of the world
If the host country performs badly, it looks bad on the nation (Hitler Berlin 1936)
