We know where you live.
Full form of GPS
Global Positioning System
What is GPS?
space-based satellite navigation, gives position info
How many satellites needed to locate?
At least 4 satellites needed for location and altitudes, 3 for location only
How does GPS work?
Satellite sends out time of transmission/satellite position. GPS receiver gets signal, compares time on clock, gets distance from the satellites. Triangulates position on earth.
Other GPS systems
GLONASS- Russian
Galileo- European
Full form of WAAS
Wide Area Augmentation System
What does WAAS do?
Improves accuracy of GPS. Uses ground based reference stations, measures small variations in GPS signals, broadcasts correction message to WAAS receivers.
Full form of GBAS
Ground Based Augmentation System
What does GBAS do?
Receivers placed around airports. sends correction message to aircrafts to improve accuracy. Makes accuracy within 1 meter.
