Global population fluctuations Flashcards
How does seasonality affect a population?
changing behavior and moving to a cooler area, modifying their physical bodies to better deal with the heat, or altering the timing of certain activities to match changes in the seasons.
Migration
The movement of species across regions will cause populations to decline.
Why do animals migrate?
To find food or a suitable place to breed and raise their young.
Emerging diseases
Species may not have immunity to new diseases therefore they will die. Causes population decline
Climate change
The long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns may cause animals to migrate earlier, food/ shelter will become more scare.
Habitat destruction
Less habitats mean less species survive causing a population decline
Influence of man
Deforestation, global warming, over harvesting
