What are push factors of migration?
economic depression, unemployment, low pay, war/civil unrest, ethnic/religious tensions, global treaties & trade policies
What are pull factors of migration?
better economic/educational/work opportunities, freedoms, higher standard of living, family connections, safety
What are key aspects of migration?
remittances, nationality/visas, family reunification, assimilation
Emmigration/immigration
movement to resettle in a new country, family reunification
Temporary Migration
movement for work, family reasons, non-permanent residents, labor migrants
Tourists
people who move about the world because they want to, for pleasure, study or business
Internal Migration
movement of people within a country for work, seasonal labor
Forced/trafficked Migration
people who are used in sex industries or as labor through force, fraud or coercion
Refugees/Asylum Seekers
people forced to leave behind their homeland, or who leave involuntarily, go through multi-year vetting process
Illegal vs. Undocumented Immigrants
people who cross borders without formal sanction of the host country;
