As boarders become more exclusionary, more fortified, and riskier to cross, they greatly increase the vulnerability of those who cross them with or without authorization

More likely to turn to smugglers to assist them in getting across the border– more likely to take perilous routes

The recruitment and transportation of a person by means of force, abduction, fraud, and deception for the purpose of controlling and exploiting that person for economic gain
