What can the do Security Council?
They have the power to make permanent decisions. And there are five permanent members: UK, USA, China, France and Russia. They have the power of veto.
There are 10 permanent members in 2 year terms.
Who is the Secretary General and what does he do?
Ban Ki Moon
- leader of the UN. Priorities include trying to be a bridge builder, to give voice to the worlds poorest and most vulnerable people, and to strengthen the UN itself.
When and why was the United Nations formed??
- Formed in 1945 after World War two.
- Mission: to maintain international peace and security and to promote friendly relations between countries.
