Q

Can you fly this aircraft with known inoperative equipment?

A

Is the inoperative equipment required as part of 91.205? Listed on the KOEL? Required by AD? If the answer is yes, I cannot fly. If no, the instrument must be deactivated and placarded.

Q

What is zero fuel weight?

A

The maximum allowable weight of the airplane and payload, assuming no usable fuel. (purpose to limit load forces on wing spars with heavy fuselage weight)

Q

How does an aft CG affect Vmc?

A

Shorter rudder moment arm; greater thrust moment arm on operative engine.

Q

How does a change in weight affect Vmc?

A

Unaffected in straight and level. But in a bank, where a horizontal component of weight (side load) creates a more effective sideslip, Vmc increases as weight is reduced.

13
Q

How does a change of density altitude affect Vmc?

A

Higher DA, lower Vmc; because thrust is less

Q

How does a sideslip affect Vmc?

A

With wings level, Vmc is increased because there is no horizontal component of lift helping combat asymmetric thrust. Vmc decreases with zero-sideslip.

Q

What is the relationship between Vmc and Vs as altitude increases?

A

Vs remains the same, but Vmc decreases and reaches Vs because of a reduction in thrust
