Global Ecosysystem Flashcards
Biosphere
Natural system that everyone everyday relies in their lives;food, water, fuels, resources and our basic standard of living we have come accustomed too
Ecosystem
The study of living, biotic, and non living (abiotic) aspects of an environment such as a woodland where the living things interact between each other and also with the non living environment they are found within
How biomes change with altitude on mountain sides
Fall in temperatures. Mountain is also more exposed to wind, precipitation is usually greater at higher altitudes, in addition, slopes usually become steeper and soil thinner.
These factors mean that forest biomes will decrease with altitude becoming stunted and them replaced by hardier species like grass
How alkaline rocks change the vegetation type in the UK
Limestone rocks produce alkaline soils and due to their permeability are relatively dry. These factors lead to beech trees replacing oak as the dominant species in some areas or even prevent tree growth altogether
How rock type will affect drainage of soil and vegetation
q
Biotic
Living parts of an ecosystem e.g animals
Abiotic
Non-living parts of ecosystem e.g CO2
