Global climate type: aspect 1 Flashcards
SRP 1- where is this climate found
A Mediterranean climate is the climate typical of the lands in the Mediterranean basin. These lands form the largest area of the climate but it is also found in other parts of the world. Eg. coastal California, western and southern Australia, south west south Africa, sections of central Asia and central Chile
SRP2- how does latitude influence seasons
Located between 30 and 40 degrees north and south of the equator the climate is characterised by dry summers and mild moist winters.
SRP 3- sunshine and stability of climate
The mediterranean climate is seen as stable with predictable weather patterns. There are approx. 300 days of sunshine per year due to high pressure cells remaining over its location
SRP4- 4 sub tropical high pressure cells associated with the climate
Azores High
South Atlantic high
North Pacific high
Indian Ocean high
SRP4- how do these cells influence the cimate
These high pressure cells shift towards the poles in summer and towards the equator in Winter playing a role in the words subtropical and tropical deserts as well as the formation of the med climate basin.
SRP5-where in location to landmasses are these climates located?
Western side
SRP 6-What location of med climate is associated with the azores high
Southern Europe, North Africa, the Sahara , azores canary islands and other eastyern Atlantic islands. France and england also border.
SRP 7-What part of the climate is associated with the South Atlantic High
Western part of south Africa. the Namib desert is also influenced by this pressure cell but is not part of the Mediterranean climate
SRP 8- What location of the climate is associated with the North + South Pacific high
California’s climate in the North and central chiles climate to the south. The Sonoran desert is influenced by the north cell and the atacama desert is influenced by the south pacific cell.
SRP 9- What location of the climate is associated with the Indian Ocean High
The Mediterranean climate of southwest and southcentral Australia but also the great sandy desert, great Victoria desert and the Gibson desert.
