Global Atmospheric Circulation Flashcards
1
Q
Name the 3 different cells.
A
Polar cell
Ferrell cell
Hadley cell
2
Q
Where is there high pressure?
A
The North and South Pole. Cool air sinks, creating high pressure.
3
Q
What happens 60degrees north and south of the equator?
A
Warmer surface winds meet colder air from the poles. The warmer air is less dense than the cold air so it rises, crating low pressure.
4
Q
What happens 30degrees north and south of the equator?
A
Cool air sinks creating a high pressure belt with cloudless skies and very little rainfall.
5
Q
Where is there low pressure?
A
The equator.
6
Q
What does rising air create?
A
Low pressure belt.
7
Q
What does cool falling air create?
A
High pressure belt.
