Climate Change and Global Warming Flashcards
What is climate change?
The large scale, long time shift in the planets weather patterns or average temperatures.
What is Global Warming?
A gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth’s atmosphere generally attributed to greenhouse gases caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide and others.
Evidence of climate change:
Rising sea levels Shrinking glaciers Melting ice sheets Seasonal changes Increase in tropical storms More extreme weather in the U.K. Daily temperatures increasing
Main greenhouse gases.
Water vapour
Carbon dioxide
Nitrous oxide
Methane
Mitagation
When people reduce the causes of a hazard to their lives.
Adaptation
When people respond to change to limit its impacts or to take advantage of the change.
Mitigation examples.
Carbon capture
Planting trees
Alternative energy production
International agreements
Adaptation examples.
Reducing risk from rising sea level
Managing water supply
Changes to agriculture
