Glial Cells Flashcards
Oligodendrocytes
To do myelin wrapping of axons. Form the repeater in CNS.
Astrocytes
Form much of the structure of the brain in which neurons reside. They regulate the brain environment and form the blood-brain barrier.
Schwann Cells
To do myelin wrapping of axons. Form repeaters in the PNS.
Microglial Cells
Scavenger cells that ingrate through the brain when some area is injured and remove debris. Maintain proper ionic constituencies in the extra cellular space, and providing the structural framework in which neurons initially gone during development.
Ependymal Cells
Line the central cavities of brain and spinal cord. Help circulate cerebrospinal fluid filling those spaces.
Satellite Cells
Surround nerve cell bodies in peripheral nervous system. Regulate chemical environment around neurons.
