This Riesling has a pale straw color, aromas of floral notes, citrus blossoms, subbtle spice aromas as well. The wine’s minerality is intense, rich mouthfeel. Jim Barry Wines is one of South Australia’s most well-known wine producers, having crafted a name for its premium wines made from Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Riesling. The winery was established in 1959 when Jim and his wife Nancy purchased their first property and vineyards on the outskirts of the Clare Valley. Peter Barry (winemaker) first tasted Assyrtiko in August 2006 while on holiday with his wife Sue on the Greek island of Santorini, birthplace of the Assyrtiko grape variety. The flavors of Assyrtiko reminded him of Clare Valley Rieslings. He began the process of importing cuttings into Australia through quarantine. In August 2012 they planted Australia’s first Assyrtiko at the Lodge Hill Vineyard, a special and unique site treasured by his family and suited to this variety.
