What types of glass are there in motor vehicles?
A
Toughened Glass
Laminated Glass

What does toughened glass do when broken?
A
When broken it breaks into lots of small pieces that cling together “Frosting Over” Affect.

What does Laminated glass do when broken?
A
Breaks into larger shards that are encapsulated with a layer of plastic within it.
(Usually fitted in the Front’s and Rears of vehicles).

How do you manage Toughened Glass?
A
- Wind down side windows as much as possible
- Sheet under the door
- Cover glass in door with sheet and break using glass
punch. - Brush loose glass onto floor sheet to clear up.

How do you manage Laminated Glass in a Front screen?
A
- Put on dust mask to protect from inhaling glass dust
- Make initial hole into the lower center of the screen using the Glass saw (Punch end)
- Using Glass saw or the Makita recipricating saw, saw from the initial hole to either front A Post (cutting on the back stroke of the saw action)
- The cut should look like a smiley face on the screen of the vehicle, Low in the center and high at the A posts.
