What are the common pathogens of GIT infections?
A
Gram -ve bacteria:
- E. Coli
- salmonella
- campylobacter
- V. Cholera
- shigella
Gram -ve bacteria:
- clostridium
Viral:
Rotavirus
Protozoal:
- giardia lamblia

What is the general management of GIT infections?
A
- adequate hydration (fluid and electrolytes), use oral rehydration solutions
- isolating the source of the pathogen eg. food/water bourne and limiting exposure
- hygiene, hand washing, disinfecting of toilet areas

What is the Tx of severe and or prolonged cases of campylobacter infections?
A
Erythromycin 500mg qid (5-7 days)
OR
Norfloxacin 400mg bd (5 days)
