Q

what were the failures of the Libyan war for G? (5 points)

A
  • The war increased support for the ANI and accentuated their opposition to the Liberal government because they believed not enough was done to ensure Italian victory.
  • It encouraged nationalists to demand further expansion.
  • Nationalists continued to refuse to work with G
  • Giolitti lost socialist support as they were anti-war. The PSI had helped form the key basis for his programme of trasformismo - this was now lost.
  • Encouraged Giolitti to extend the franchise, as it was difficult to deny the vote to Italy’s conscript soldiers. This led to further political problems for the Liberals.
