  • Increased inflammation in the prescence of small amounts of plaque

  • Painless, mushroom like exophytic mass
  • Arises from gingival margin or interproximal space
  • Dissapears post-martum

    • swollen, glazed, spongy, red to deep purple, bleeding

Linear Gingival Erythema

A
  • AKA HIV associated gingivitis
  • 2-3 mm marginal band of intense erythema in free gingiva
  • May extend to attached gingiva- focal or diffuse
  • Poor therapy outcomes
  • Incidence reduced after the advent of anti-retroviral therapy

  • Slowly growing after eruption of permanent teeth
  • Non-hemorrhagic and firm
  • Histologically- dense fibrotic CT and epithelial hyperplasia
