Acute Perio Conditions Flashcards
ANUG Early Signs 4
- Necrotic lesion of papilla progressing to gingival margin
- Punched out apperance
- Extremely painful
- Spontaneous bleeding
ANUG Advanced Lesion 4
- Lack of deep pockets
- Merging of papillary and marginal involvement
- Crater formation from central necrosis
- Foetor, smelly
What flora are associated with ANUG 4
Treponema
Selenomonas
Fusobacterium
P. intermedia
Can release endotoxins
What are other factors contributing to ANUG
Stress- cortisol
Poor sleep
Smoking
Alcohol
Caucasian, young
Gingival abcess
Localized purulent infection
Involving gingival margin and interdental papilla
Pericoronal Abcess
Localized purulent infection
Within tissue surrounding crown of partially erupted tooth
Periodontal Abcess and types
Localized purulent infection
Within tissue adjacent periodontal pocket, PDL ligament and bone
Perio related- subgingival biofilm in deep pocket
Non-perio related- Foreign body impaction
Periapical Abcess
Inflammatory condition
Purulent exudate involving dental pulp remnants and tissue surrounding apex
Gingival abcess treatment
Removal of noxious agents
Incision and drainage
NO antobiotics
Home NaCL water rinse
Pericoronal Abcess treatment
Removal of noxious agents
Irrigation
IF systemic complications- antibiotics
Home NaCL water rinse
After controlled, extract or operculectomy
Periodontal Abcess Treatment
- Drain through pocket retraction or incision
- SRP
- Perio surgery
- Extraction
- Systemic complications–>AB
- ACT QUCKLY bone resorbs quickly
Periapical abcess treatment
Extraction
Root canal therapy
