gingival curettage Flashcards
what is gingival curettage
a surgical procedure designed to remove the soft tissue lining the periodontal pocket with a curet.
what tissues r removed with ging cur
junction epithelium
pocket epithelium
subjacent diseased connective tissue
what is subgingival curettage
curettage is performed mora apically into the connective tissue without making it a flap
what is the goal of gingival curettage
to promote new connective tissue attachment to the tooth by removing the pocket lining
what is inadvarted curettage
the unescapable curettage effect when scaling and root planing
gingival curettage technique
debridement done prior
local anesthesia
instrument selection (curettes)
blade placed against tissue
-horizontal 4 interproximal
-vertical 4 facial n oral
curette placed subgingivally at the bottm of sulcus
cutting edge directed towards soft tissue
curette pulled along with tissue
finger placed against gingiva externally 4 controlled pressure
gingival pocket irrigated w saline water or oral antiseptic
gentle pressure to stop hemmorhage n reattachment
seperated interdental papillae may require sutures
surgical dressing may b indicated
disadvantages
excessive damage: late healing
debris left
tearing periodontal attachments
blood clotting
