GI tract Lecture 4 - Teel Flashcards
Ghrelin
Leptin
Ghrelin: Produced in stomach, stimulates appetite
Leptin: Produced in Fat cells, stimulates satiation
CCK: Inhibitor of appetite, due to end products of this being glucose, AAs, FAs, these nutrients act as inhibitors.
Mechanisms of Fructose:
Induces insulin resistance. (Body does not respond to activities of insulin)
Increases circulating tri-glycerides
Induces leptin resistance. (leptin stimulates satiation, so resisting it makes u more hungry)
Postprandial (after mealtime), circulating Ghrelin levels fall
Lowers postprandial circulating leptin and insulin
Active absorption involves co-transport with Na+. Which of the following is not actively absorbed with Na+?
A. fe2+
B. Glucose
C. Primary Bile Acids
D. Certain AAs
E. Vitamin C
A.
Fe2+ cotransported with H+, not Na+.
