Q

What is probability sampling ?

A
  1. randomly selected samples
  2. done using rng or die
  3. removes biasness of researcher
  4. has a greater chance of creating a representative sample

Q

What is non probability sampling ?

A
  1. non randomly selected, often using researcher’s conscious decision
  2. subjectively selected samples eg family and close friends
  3. biased
  4. unlikely to be representative as they were subjectively selected
hard to make generalisations off it
    used in :
    time limited situations
unnecessary to select representative sample when testing

Q

What is simple random sampling and stratified random sampling ?

A
  1. simple
    members are given numbers
using rng to determine who is interviewed / tested
  2. stratified
selecting a sample that as a proportionate makeup to the population
eg when population is 65% female and 35% male, percentage of interviewees must much that
rng / die used to select specific sample

Q

What is convenience sampling and quota sampling ?

A
  1. quota sampling
select sample that has proportionate makeup to population based on age and sex or other categories
convenience sampling used to select specific sample
  2. convenience sampling
samples are collected as they are convenient sources of data eg people walking down the street or friends

Q

What are the advantages of predefined sampling ?

A
  1. use of predefined response guides the people -> easier for them to answer
  2. easier to analyse and interpret for the researches
  3. useful for quantitative data analysis to examine patterns and trends

Q

What are mental maps ?

A
  1. used to collect data how people experience and think visually and spatially about their environment
  2. dynamic interrelationships people have with their environment
blank paper / base map give for the people to analyse
  3. blank paper (free form mental maps) represents participant’s perceptions of places better
