What are adverse effects of Metoclopramide?

A

Side effects include NMS, dystonia, drowsiness, and diarrhea.

It is a domaminegric medication indicated in the treatment of nausea and vomiting. An adverse effect of this medication ifd neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS). Classic NMS festures include muscle rigidity, tachycardia, nd fever. This idiosyncratic reaction is commonly associated with antipsychotics (haloperidol, aripipprazole, olanzipine, etc.). However, this may be seen in other dopaminergic medications such as metoclopramide.

What is the treatment in Hirschsprung’s disease?

A

The aganglionic section of the colon is removed, and the unaffected, functioning ends are attached to each other. In some cases, a Pull-through procedure is done, where a surgeon removed the segment of the large intestione lacking nerve cells and connects the first part to the anus.

*Hirschsprung disease does not respond to medication due to the missing nerves in the colon.
