What does rebound tenderness indicate and what are the types?
What is the treatment?
Peritonitis
Primary - Associated with end stage renal disease or portal hypertension - get Spontaneous Bacterial Peritonitis
Secondary - Infection elsewhere eg appendicitis
Antibiotics (tazocin) +/- surgical resection
What is the management of an obstruction?
When do you use surgery?
NBM
NG tube to such out fluid
Analgesia and fluids
Surgery:
Strangulation or closed loop. If not can use water soluble enemas
What are some common causes of an upper GI bleed?
Peptic ulcer
Varices
Gastritis
Mallery Weiss Tear
Oesophagitis
Duodenitis
What blood test can suggest upper GI bleed?
Raised urea with normal creatitine
This shows it is not the kidneys and that blood is being digeste
What is the management of an upper GI bleed?
Airway
Fluid
Catheter
Endoscopy
CXR/ABG/ECG etc
