can be caused by hypoxia, perioperative stroke, medications, electrolyte imbalance

or paralytic ileus

inability of the intestine to contract normally and move waste out of the body, if it lasts longer than 72 hours post op then its a problem

PONV?

post op nausea + vomiting

• look for underlying cause
• administer antiemetics
• aspiration w/ vomiting
• increase in ICP
• increase in pain + distress

Question 5

what are some renal complications?

Answer 5

• urinary retention- full bladder BUT unable to pass urine. ADH and aldosterone
• acute kidney injury

Question 6

what is normal urine production?

Answer 6
