GI Anatomy 8 Flashcards
What branch is given off the external iliac before the inferior epigastric?
The deep circumflex iliac artery
What artery supplies the prostate?
The prostatic branch of the inferior vesical
What is the uracus?
Fibrous remnant of the allantois
What is the medial inguinal triangle or inguinal triangle of Hesselbach?
Weakening through which a direct inguinal hernia can occur
What is the anteflexion angle and what value does it have normally?
Angle between the axis of the uterus and the axis of the cervix, usually about 120 degrees
What is the anteversion angle and what is its value normally?
Angle between the axis of the cervix and axis of the vagina, usually about 90degrees
What is the perineal body?
Fibromuscular mass on which levator ani, muscles of urogenital diaphragm and anal sphinter muscle converge
What are the 3 functions of the pelvic floor?
Childbirth, continence and support
What 3 layers is the urogenital diaphragm made up of?
Superior layer of loose connective tissue
Layer of striated muscle which forms the external urethral sphincter and sphincter of the vagina
Inferior thick layer of fascia which is the perineal membrane
How does the posterior scrotal/labial artery pass into the superficial perineal pouch?
Posterior to the free edge of the urogenital diaphragm
What are the contents of the deep perineal pouch in the male and female
External urethral sphincter - both Female Compressor urethra Urethrovaginal sphincter Smooth muscle (along posterior border of urogenital diaphragm) Male Deep transverse perineal muscle Bulbourethral glands within deep transverse perineal
What are the contents of the superficial perineal pouch in the male?
Urethra Corpus cavernosus Crus of the penis Ischicavernosus muscle Corpus spongiosus Bulb of the penis Ischiospongiosus muscle Perineal body Superficial transverse perineal External anal sphincter Anus Ischial ramus
What are the contents of the superficial perineal pouch in the female?
The body of the clitoris Curs of the clitoris Ischiocavernosus muscle Bulb of the clitoris Bulbospongiosus muscle Superfical transverse perineal muscle Great vestibular gland Ischial ramus External anal sphincter External urethral orifice Vaginal orifice Perineal body Anus
In which sex only does the internal urethral sphincter exist and why?
Male
Prevent retrograde movement of semen during ejaculation
Where are the bulbourethral glands in the male and the great vestibular glands in the female situated and what is there function?
Bulbourethral glands in the male are in the deep perineal pouch
Greater vestibular glands in the female are in the superficial perineal pouch
Lubricate the vagina or the urethra
Contribute to the ejaculate
