What is the GI tract?
A
Series of hollow organs separated by spincters , controlling movement running from an oral to aboral direction

What happens in the mouth and oropharynx?
A
chopping up food, lubricating food, amylase begins carbohydrate digestion and propulsion of food into the oesophagus.

What happens in the stomach?
A
Stores and churns food, continues carbohydrate digestion and initiates protein digestion. Also regulates the delivery of chyme to the duodenum.

What makes up the small intestine and what happens here?
A
Duodenum, jejunum and ileum. Site of digestion and absorption of nutrients.
