Get Off Your “But” Flashcards
What is the first lesson in Get off your “But”?
Making connections with people. It is different than simply communicating with them.
Making connections involves being empathetic and caring about people’s opinions.
How to get over shyness?
Change the focus from thinking about what people are thinking about me to focussing on helping others.
How is making connections rewarding?
Spending just a few minutes a day authentically connecting with friends, family, and colleagues can yield incredible returns.
How can we take charge of the power of words in our inner dialogue?
write down inner thinking without judgment, and review it the next day.
Identify any fear in it.
Identify any self disrespect in it.
Then, create a list of positive statements to replace the negative ones – and watch your perspective shift.
How to take advantage of the mind body connection?
It’s like magic; our body influences our emotions. Relax, breathe deeply, slow down your blinking, maintain good posture, control your tone of voice, and smile.
How to stay on the bright side of life?
The ability to manage where we place our attention is a tremendous power that greatly affects our achievements, emotions, and ability to handle life’s challenges.
The key here is gratitude – to focus on what you have rather than obsessing over what you don’t have.
What is a yardstick for a good friend?
In short, they won’t join in when you complain. They’ll help you either solve the issue or let go of the negativity. When friends enable your negativity, they’re essentially pushing you back onto your BUTs.
How to take charge?
It is by staying at the “cause” side of the equation and moving out of the “effect” side.
When you live at the Cause end, you consciously steer your life. But if you’re at Effect, life seems to just happen to you. The goal is to live at Cause. But for this to happen you must take full responsibility for owning your life’s journey.
