Decision Making Flashcards
What is the #1 thing that prevents good decision making?
Lack of information.
What should be done when information is gathered?
We need to determine which information is most important to us.
How to handle conflicting information?
The solution to this is deciding what information is really important and why.
What is analysis paralysis?
It is keeping on asking for more information before a decision can be made. A time limit has to be set for taking the decision.
What can happen when too many people are involved in decision making?
Too many people - each having different views and values. Solution is one person should take responsibility for the decision.
What is an important consideration about decision making when a group of people are involved?
Vested interest - these are not overtly expressed, hence are difficult to identify. The solution is to discuss them with someone who is outside the decision making process but is in a similar situation.
What is one way of simplifying decision making?
Breaking down decisions into simpler steps.
Decide on the sub-steps and explain the rationale for each sub-step.
