Q

Pregnancy outside the uterine cavity. The most frequent site is in the fallopian tube, so rupture of the site usually occurs before 12 weeks. It is commonly caused by mechanical factors that delay the passage of ovum in the oviducts and prevent it from reaching the uterus in time for implantation.

Q

A problem of pregnancy in which the PLACENTA GROWS IN THE LOWEST PART OF THE WOMB (uterus) and covers all or part of the opening to the cervix.

TYPES

COMPLETE OR TOTAL - a placenta completely covers the internal os when the cervix is fully dilated.
PARTIAL - placenta partially covers the internal os.
MARGINAL - the edge of the placenta is lying at the margin of the internal os
LOW LYING - the placenta implants near the internal os, its edges can be felt by examining finger on the IE.

Q

A

ABRUPTIO PLACENTA

15
Q

Rupture of the membranes (amniotic sac) before labor begins. If PROM occurs before 37 weeks of AOG, it is called preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM).

A

PREMATURE RUPTURE OF MEMBRANES

15
Q

Condition in which VASOSPASM occurs during pregnancy in both small and large arteries.

A

PREGNANCY INDUCED HYPERTENSION

15
Q
  • Blood pressure 140/90 or systolic pressure elevated 15 mmHg above prepregnancy level.
  • no edema
A

GESTATIONAL HYPERTENSION

15
Q

Disease process acquired only during pregnancy. The cure is delivery of the baby.

A

PRE-ECLAMPSIA

16
Q
  • Mild edema in the upper extremities or face.
  • Weight gain over 2 lbs. per week in 2nd trimester and 1 lb. per week on 3rd trimester.
A

MILD PRE-ECLAMPSIA

17
Q
  • Blood pressure 160/110 mmHg.
  • Cerebral or visual disturbances.
A

SEVERE PRE-ECLAMPSIA

18
Q
  • Seizure or coma accompanied by s/s or pre-eclampsia.
  • Occurs when woman has one or more tonic-clonic seizures.
A

ECLAMPSIA
