what was the impact of the depression on germany?
-As america wasnt buying things factoies had to shut down and many became jobless.
-American banks demanded back the borrowed money, so german banks had to get money from bussinesses and many of them went bankrupt.
-people were soon living in the streets.

-the depression- voter who never paid attention to them were now listening.
-failure of wiemar gov- democracy wasnt working and they needed one man to rule.

-farmers have been hit hard by the depression as people arent buying much food and the Nazi’s promised farmers higher prices.
-farmers also hate the communists as they would forbid for farmers to split up their land between their children.
why did women vote for the Nazis?
-the Nazi’s were strong beleivers in family life.
-many women agreed with hitler when he said that ‘over the last 10 years our children have been exposed to a flood of muck and filth’.
why did the nazis recieve their most votes for the middle classes?
-some people’s wages had been cut by the goverment in the deppression, and large groupos of unemployed youth filled the streets.
-the middle class fear that law and order might break down or communism might take over.
-the want weimar gov to be strong but the argue too much and nazis promise to be decicive.
why did the youth and soldiers vote for hitler?
Hitler was an Ex-solder who knows the value of a powerful army, navy and airforce. he promised to tewar up the treay of versailles signed by weak weimar politicians, and make the country strong.
-many youth wanted to be part of german army and get jobs or build new infrastructure.
-people who heard hitler speeck for won over by his persasivness.
why did some of the upper class vote for the Nazis?
they mioght not support everything the nazis say but they do suport some key issues:
-nazis promised strong leaders and a powerful nation
-hitler promised to allow them to run factories how they wanted and to use them to make things for war
-the niazis fight the communists who the rich are affraid of

describe the main events from april 1932 till hitlers election in january 1933.
1932
April - Presidential election. Hitler came second to Hindenburg, who won 53 per cent of the vote to Hitler’s 36.8 per cent.
May - Brüning resigned as Chancellor. Hindenburg appointed Franz Von Papen, a conservative, as his replacement.
July - Reichstag elections. The Nazis became the largest single party with 230 seats, but still did not have a majority. Hitler demanded to be made Chancellor but Papen remained.
November - Reichstag elections called by Von Papen to try to win a majority in parliament. Nazis lost 34 seats but remained the largest party with 196 seats.
December - Von Papen resigned. Hindenburg appointed Kurt Von Schleicher, an army general, as Chancellor. Von Schleicher tried to split the Nazis by asking a leading Nazi called Gregor Strasser to be his Vice Chancellor. Hitler forced Strasser to decline.
1933
January - Von Papen and Hindenburg turned to Hitler, appointing him as Chancellor with Von Papen as Vice Chancellor. They believed they could control Hitler and get him to do what they wanted.
