200 of the finest German Wine Producers. Strigent, self-imposed regulations: Must have holding in the top vineyard sites. Produce lower yields and achieve higher must weights than required. Plant at least 80% of their vineyards in traditional regional varieties. Practice sustainable agriculture. Be established as a full-time grower of sound reputation. Members’ labels and capsules carry the VDP logo and name.

Erste Lage top VDP wines. Grosses Gewächs-dry wines (Erste Gewach in Rheingau) hand harvested and at a minimum must weight equivalent to Spätlese. Maximum yield of 50 hl/ha, max RS 9 g/l; Grosse Gewächs aging - whites September 1st following harvest, reds extra year; Prädikat level - lusciously sweet wine.
