What is his significance?
His significance is that he is used to show how some of the wealthier classes treated the poor when he helped Daisy. This was a rare case during that time period.
What does he represent?
Ultimately, Gerald is used to represent the selfish attitudes of the wealthier classes as he usually disregards morals for his own lust. He cheats on Sheila to have an affair with a more attractive woman (Daisy) and then when he is finished with her he just goes back to Sheila. He also represents stereotypes of men as well.
What are his beliefs?
He believes in capitalism and to do anything that will bring value. He uses the engagement between him and Sheila to make more profits from his business and uses Daisy for his own lust.
