Q

Climate

A

Patterns of weather. (Hot, cold, dry, or wet).

Earth rotation makes climate in all places on the planet. North and South Poles are darker for example.

Q

What is the relationship between latitude and climate?

A

Latitude separates the climate zones.

The higher the latitude, the colder and the less sun.

Example: the North Pole has very little sun in the winter and is very cold. This is because it is very far from the Equator.

Q

What would Antarctica look like on a Mercator Projection?

A

It becomes huge, extremely wide.

This is because a Mercator Projection doesn’t reflect how the lines of longitude converge at the poles.

Therefor, the distance between lines of longitude appear greater than they actually are.

Q

Why do maps need scale?

A

Because we need to determine the relationship between the space on the map, and the world.

A map of the world in my room is not the real size of the world so I need a scale to determine the actual distances or else it’s use would be pointless.

Latitude

A

Line that runs horizontally.

Provides the location of a place north or south of the Equator.

1 degree of latitude is about equal to 70 miles.

A

Scale literally showed in a graph. (Look in book for example).

20
Q

Verbal Scale

A

A scale written in words.

Ex: one in equals 200 miles on the globe.

21
Q

Ratio Scale

A

A scale showed by a ratio of measurement from the map to the world.

Ex—-> 1 : 5,000 cm

22
