Geometry Flashcards
What is a ‘point’?
a point represents a precise location on a plane
What is a ‘line’?
a straight path that is endless in both directions
What is a ‘line segment’?
part of a line that has two endpoints
What is a ‘ray’?
part of a line that starts at an endpoint and is endless in the other direction
What is an ‘angle’?
two rays that meet at a common endpoint (vertex)
What is an ‘acute angle’?
an angle that measures less than 90 degrees
What is a ‘right angle’?
an angle that measures exactly 90 degrees
What is an ‘obtuse angle’?
an angle that measures more than 90 degrees, but less than 180 degrees
What are ‘parallel lines’?
two lines that lie on the same plane and continue the same distance apart, never intersecting
What are ‘perpendicular lines’?
two lines that intersect at a right angle
What are ‘intersecting lines’?
lines that share exactly one point
What is a ‘benchmark angle”?
an angle that is commonly used as a reference
What is an ‘isosceles triangle’?
a triangle with two equal sides
What is an ‘equilateral triangle’?
a triangle with all equal sides
What is a ‘scalene triangle’?
a triangle with no equal sides
What is a ‘parallelogram’?
a quadrilateral with two pairs of parallel sides
What is a ‘right triangle’?
a triangle with one right angle
What is an ‘obtuse triangle’?
a triangle with one obtuse angle
What is an ‘acute triangle’?
a triangle with all acute angles
What is a ‘trapezoid’?
a quadrilateral with one pair of parallel sides
What is a ‘kite’?
a quadrilateral with a pair of congruent sides and perpendicular diagonals
What is a ‘rhombus’?
a parallelogram with all equal sides
What is a ‘rectangle’?
a parallelogram with all right angles
What is a ‘square’?
a parallelogram that has all equal sides and all right angles
What is a protractor?
a math tool used to measure angles (in degrees)
What is a ‘vertex’?
a point where two or more lines, line segments, or rays meet
What is a ‘polygon’?
a closed figure with all straight sides
