Q

How do you find the area of a trapezoid?

A
  • give the lengths of the two parallel sides and the overall height you can take the average of the products of the long side * height and the short side * height
    • or think of it as adding the two lengths together, multiplying by the height, then dividing by two.
  • if you draw a full rectangle over the trapezoid, you see that each triangle reclaims half of the area of the rectangle outside the rectangle formed by the short side

Q

What is a rhombus?

A
  • a 4 sided shape with 4 equal sides
  • opposite sides are parallel
  • diagonal lines from one corner to the next bisect at right angles
  • altitude is the distance at right angles to the two sides
  • area can be calculated by altitude * side length
