Geological History Flashcards
What are the 3 eras?
The 3 eras are: Cenozoic, Mesozoic and Paleozoic
What 3 periods of time were in the era Cenozoic?
The 3 periods in the Cenozoic era are: Quaternary, Neogene and Paleogene
What 3 periods of time were in the Mesozoic era?
The 3 periods in the Mesozoic era are: Cretaceous, Jurassic and Triassic
What 6 periods of time were in the Paleozoic era?
The 6 periods of time in the Paleozoic era are: Permian, Carboniferous, Devonian, Silurian, Ordovician, Cambrian
What happened in the Paleozoic era?
The Paleozoic era ended with a mass extinction (a large volcano eruption). Lush forests covered the Earth. Reptiles roamed the land as well as giant insects. This era also ends with an ice age.
What happened in the Mesozoic era?
In the Mesozoic era, the shape of continents on Earth were different; they were jammed together, forming a supercontinent. It was warmer, the seasons were very mild, the sea level was higher, and there was no polar ice.
What happened in the Cenozoic era?
The Cenozoic era was the ‘Age Of The Mammals’ in which whales took over the oceans, saber-tooth cats shared the land with elephants and giant sloths, and humans finally appeared.
