What is Pangea?
When the all the continents were all one bid land
What are the 4 theories Alferd Wegener made about Pangea?
- All the continents fit together like a puzzel
- Mountains seperated by oceans were made up of the same rock layers of the same age and exact same order
- Fossils of dinosaurs were found on continents now seperated by oceans
- Glacial scarring was found in places that now have tropical (very hot) climate
When and What was the Precambrian Era?
4600 mya ago. Mountain buildinng and only the Canadian Shield existed.
When and What was the Paleozoic Era?
570 mya ago. Sedimentery Rock forming around the Canadian Shield. Pangea is created and the Applachian mountains.
When and What was the Mesozoic Era?
245 mya ago. The age of dinosaurs. The Rocky and Innuitians mountains were formed. North American and Pacific plated collied causing magma to rise to the surface
When and What was the Cenozoic Era?
The present era. Human were created and canada looks like how we know it today.
Divergent Plates
when two tectonic plates move away from each other and they move upwards
Convergent Plates
where two or more tectonic plates collide
Transform Plates
when two tectonic plates slide/rub against each other
Folding
where plates force layers of rock upwards to create mountains
Subduction
the process where one plate moves under another plate which can cause volcanoes, earthquakes, and deep clean trenches
Faulting
where two plates rub together, sometimes forcing one over the other creating new landforms
