Describe Waldron Island
Waldron Island is NW of Orcas island and is steep and rocky on the E side but flat with sandy beaches on the N and W sides. It is irregular in shape and 3 M long. the highest point is 612 feet high near Pt. Disney on its S end.
Describe President Channel
President channel between Waldron and Orcas Island, is 5 M long, with great depths and few obvious dangers.
Describe Orcas Island
Orcas is wooded and mountainous. Orcas village is located on the W shore in a cove at the West end of Harney Channel. Turtleback Mountain and Orcas Knob are conical and bare on the summit in the W part of the island.
Describe Wasp passage
Wasp passage leads from the San Juan channel to West Sound and separates Crane Island from the N shore of Shaw island.
Describe Shaw island
Shaw is the smallest island served by WSF. It lies between Harney Channel to the N and upright channel to the SE, and San Juan channel to the SW. Broken Pt. 1.6 M W of the ferry landing, projects .3 M N from the N side of the island and is prominent.
Describe Upright Channel
Upright channel, between Lopez and Shaw is about 3 M long. Canoe island off Flat Pt. constricts the passage to the width of less than 400 yards. Flat Pt. is marked by a light
Describe Lopez Island
Lopez island is the Southernmost San Juan Island. Lopez Hill near the S midsection of the island is 488 ft high. Upright head is the northernmost point and marks the turn for upright and harney channel. Village of Lopez is located near the entrance of Fisherman Bay on the W. side of the island.
Describe San Juan Channel.
San Juan Channel is the middle of 3 principle channels leading from the strait of Juan De Fuca to the Strait of Georgia.
