Geography Revision Flashcards
weathering
What is weathering?
It is the breaking or disintegration of rocks in their given location by various atmosphere conditions.
What are the three factors of weathering?
climate
chemical composition
structure of the rocks
The definition of the three types of weathering.
1.climate-areas of high temperature and rainfall have a higher rate of weathering than cold regions.
2.chemical composition of rocks- some minerals which are easily attacked by the rain and air cause them to decompose
3.structure of the rocks-the more the presence of cracks and joints in the rocks the greater possibility of disintegration
Examples of chemical composition
calcium,carbonate and iron
What are the 3 types of weathering?
physical/mechanical weathering, chemical weathering and biotic weathering
What is biotic weathering?
chemical and physical change occur as a result of plants and animal activity
What is chemical weathering?
the rocks structure decompose and change chemical structure due to the chemical reactions.
What is physical weathering?
rocks disintegrate into smaller pieces with no change to their chemical structure.
What is another name for physical weathering?
mechanical
