Geography Natural Disasters Flashcards
Destructive plate margins how do they move
Plates move towards eachother
Example of destructive plate margins
Nasca and South America
What do destructive plates cause
Earthquakes and volcanoes
How do constructive plates margin moves
Plates move apart
Example of constructive plate margins
Eurasian and North American
What does constructive plate margins do
They get magma to rise between the diverging plates as volcanoes. Magma below the surface pushing upwards creates mid oceans ridges
How do conservative plates move
Move Parallel to each other and they move at the same direction at different speeds or in opposite directions
What the problem with conservatives plate
Friction causes them to be stuck
Pressure builds up and create earthquakes
Primary effects of natural hazards
Earth shaking
Lava or ash coming out the window
Strong winds heavy rain and storm surges
Secondary impacts
Hospital could be destroyed
Poison gasses could damage people health from the ash
Flooding
How many days does it take to get an immediate response
After the first few hours or days after the disaster
What would immediate responses give to the victims
Shelter
Medical
Food aid
What are the long term responses to natural hazards
Re building and reconstruction of the areas that have suffers disasters
What are the migrating risk of natural hazards
Monitoring
Prediction
Protection
Planning
What does Monitoring mean
Using scientific equipment to detect warning signs of events
