What is eutrophication?

A

Eutrophication is a process in which excessive nutrients, particularly nitrogen and phosphorus, are added to a body of water, leading to an overgrowth of algae and other aquatic plants. As these plants die and decompose, they consume oxygen, leading to a decrease in oxygen levels in the water. This can result in the death of fish and other aquatic organisms, and can also lead to the production of harmful toxins.
