Exploration
The action of traveling in or through an unfamiliar area in order to learn about it.
Expedition
A journey or voyage undertaken by a group of people with a particular purpose.
Compass
An instrument containing a magnetized pointer that shows the direction of magnetic north and bearings from it.
Longitude
The angular distance of a place east or west of the meridian at Greenwich, England or west of the standard meridian of a celestial equator, usually expressed in degrees and minutes.
Latitude
The angular distance of a place north or south of the earth’s equator, or of a celestial object north or south of the celestial equator, usually expressed in degrees and minutes.
Meridians
A circle of constant longitude passing through a given place on the earth’s surface and the terrestrial poles.
Geography
The study of the physical features of the earth and its atmosphere, and of human activity as it affects and is affected by these, including the distribution of populations and resources, land use, and industries.
Climate
The weather conditions prevailing in an area in general or over a long period.
Biodiversity
The variety of life in the world or in a particular habitat or ecosystem.
Landform
A natural feature of the earth’s surface.
Altitude
The height of an object or point in relation to sea level or ground level.
Topography
The arrangement of the natural and artificial physical features of an area.
