What are their beliefs? (religion) (culture)
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people believe in an all-encompassing connection to their land. This is known as Dreamtime which includes songs, storytelling, art and, dance which detailed how the earth was made, and the traditions and cultural beliefs which have been passed down from generation to generation. These stories explain how the land was formed in the way it was. e.g. burringurrah ( the big rock story), the rainbow serpent. They did not worship a single god but their ancestral spirits. These ancestral could live in totems which the first nations people had to protect.
What are aboriginal and torres strait islander peoples origins?
It is belived that they are of melanesian origin. Aboriginal and torres strait islander people lived on this country, Australia, for over 60 000 year making them the oldest living continuing culture in the world. This is a testament to how expertly they lived sustainably from the land , never taking more than they needed to survive, allowing the land to regenerate (grow again) e.g. leaving turtle eggs for next season when needed. This way, young species can grow into maturity and have young themselves which continues encourages their survival

The population of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people that live in Australia is 984 000 which makes up 3.8% of the total population. This is an increase since 2016 by 185 000. this is an indication that the health services are being increasingly acessed by the first nations people.
