It is the study of the location of physical features or the living things on the surface of the earth, and how they relate to each other.
What is a geographer?
Someone who studies geography.
What are the types of geography?
-physical geography: the study of the earths natural features
Ex: water, landforms, vegetation, and climate.
-human georgraphy: The study of human activity as they relate to the earth.
Ex:adaptation, human settlement, government, migration etc
What is location, exact location, and absolute location and is there a difference?
Yes, there is a difference.
Location: place where something exists
EXACT location: the exact spot where something exists
ABSOLUTE location: absolute location on earth
What is the equator?
It is a latitude line that divides the northern and southern hemispheres.
What is prime meridian?
A longitude line that divides the eastern and Western Hemisphere
What are political boundaries?
They are the line that divides areas controlled by different governments.
Where are political boundaries located?
- Between states
- between cities
- states/ provinces
- between countries
Are the lines visible?
No, they are imaginary but pointed out on a map.
What is a region?
A group of nearby places that share certain characteristics.
What is a map?
Map: diagram that physically reperesent5s characteristics of the earth, shows mountains, rivers, deserts etc.
What is relief?
Refers to changes in elevation.
What is the name of the person who makes maps?
They are called cartographers.
What is the key on the map?
It explains the different colors and has symbols/
What is the name of special purpose maps?
