Q

Compare the weathering that is found in the uplands and lowlands

A

In the uplands a lot of the weathering is chemical based. For example freeze thaw is a type of weathering which overtime would erode rocks and break them up into smaller pieces. However in the lowlands there would be a-lot more biological weathering and plants would break the rocks in the south of the UK where the rock is less resistant

Q

Compare the soil/rock movement processes in the uplands and lowlands

A

In the uplands you would get rock movements such as landslides and rockfalls however in the lowlands you have movements such as soil creep which is the soil slowly moving towards the bottom of the hill.
Soil creep can take years to occur and is very slow whereas landslides can happen overnight.

Q

Compare misfit rivers and dry valleys (location, characteristics, formation)

A

Misfit rivers are rivers that have occurred within a glacial valley formed thousands of years ago whereas dry valleys are valleys that used to have rivers in them but have now dried up and there is a valley which would have been formed by a river now dry.

Q

Explain how glaciers have affected both landscapes

A

Glaciers have affected both uplands and lowlands over the years. Glacial erosion would have turned the mountains into valleys and completely transform the surrounding landscape. Glaciers in the lowlands would have changed the landscape due to glacial melts which would have eroded the land

Q

Explain 2 ways humans have affected the Upland landscape

A

Humans have affected the landscape by building different land features that are not natural. For example bridges or villages built in the uplands both affect the overall landscape and what it looks like. This could change all the features of a landscape

Q

Explain 2 ways humans have affected the Lowland landscape

A

Humans have affected the landscape by building different land features that are not natural. For example we have built our own rivers or also known as irrigation lines would change the landscape around the farms. Terraforming also changes how we see our land as we change the way of which it looks and is made up. These are unnatural ways of changing landscape.

Q

Compare which landscape (up/low) have been affected more by humans

A

Lowlands have been affected more by humans due to the fact that it is a-lot more habitable for us and we can build a-lot more on the flatland of the uk. Whereas we have changed the upland landscape less due to inhabitable areas such as mountains.
