A

When two plates crash into one another and the heavier one sinks and crust is destroyed

A

An underwater mountain range is formed when two plates separate and magma arises to fill the gaps

15
Q

Dormant

A

When a volcano has not erupted in more then 100 years

16
Q

Extinct

A

When a volcano is not able to erupt any more

17
Q

Convection currents

A

Magma rises from the core up to the crust then cools and sinks back down to the core so that the cycle can start over again

18
Q

Fault line

A

The plates move along the fault line a crack on the surface after the two plates meet

19
Q

Focus

A

The focus is the point deep in the earths crust were the earthquake begins

20
Q

Tremors

A

The tremors spread out from the focus

21
Q

Epicentre

A

The point directly above the focus on the surface it is the place were tremors are the strongest

22
Q

Earthquakes

A

An earthquake is a sudden movement or trembling of the earths crust this movement takes the form of a series of shocks or tremors

23
Q

Aftershock

A

An earthquake doesn’t last longer than a minute but smaller tremors call the aftershock may occur hours or days later they often cause more damage the the earthquake its self because the earthquake made the building weaker so the after shock may destroy it
