What is migration?
Migration is the movement of people from one place to another place.
What is national migration?
Movement from one region to another, within the same country.
What is an emigrant?
A migrant who is leaving their source country.
What is an immigrant?
A migrant arriving in a host country

When the migrant intends on remaining in the host country.
What is forced migration?

What is a refugee?
A person who has been forced to leave their home due to war, persecution or a natural disaster.
What does ‘persecution’ mean?
Being treated unfairly because of their race, or religious or political beliefs.
What is an asylum seeker?
Someone who is looking for protection and their claim has not yet been accepted.

What is an international migrant?

Because of war, persecution, and natural disasters.

What is one advantage of migration for the source country?
Money is often sent home by migrants, reduces pressure on jobs and resources, migrants may return with new skills learnt in host country.
What is one disadvantage of migration for the source country?
Country loses skilled workers which reduces the country’s workforce, families are broken up, fewer people paying taxes therefore decreased government money.
What is one advantage of migration for the host country?
A richer and more diverse culture, increase in taxes being paid and therefore government money, helps to reduce any labour shortages.
What is one disadvantage of migration for the host country?
Puts pressure on services such as healthcare and education, overcrowding, and disagreement between different religions and cultures.
What is a pull factor?
Factors that attract someone to a new host country.
What is a push factor?
Factors that push someone away from a country.

What is an economic migrant?
